Hogwash in Michigan!
Not all of my blog followers make it to Late Bloomer Facebook page, and because I feel so strongly about food security and family farmers, and I know some of you are raising pigs and chickens and other animals, I am passing along this video of pig farmer Mark Baker, fighting the new ISO pig rulings in Michigan. Mark is a retired Air Force veteran who raises the heritage breed Mangalitsa pigs on his farm, Baker’s Green Acres, in Marion, Michigan.

Mark asks, “Where does it end?,” meaning, it could happen with chickens and other animals, and it IS happening right now with heirloom seeds! This is why voting “Yes” for Proposition 37 in California on November 6 is so important! We have to send a strong signal to Monsanto that the people have the right to know what’s in their food.
Care about food security? Support family farmers and the work of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, “a 501(c)(4) nonprofit [EIN 20-8605130], (which) defends the rights and broadens the freedoms of family farms and artisan food producers while protecting consumer access to raw milk and nutrient-dense foods.” It takes a lot of guts, and money, to stand up to the government, so please support the FCDLF.
There is apparently no limit to government harassment of family farmers (which is fueled by Big Agribusiness, aka, Monsanto, ConAgra, etc.). In my view, no one has more integrity than the family farmer today, and Mark Baker and family are a perfect example, as are all the dairy farmers producing raw dairy products for human consumption. This is a very deep issue in our country that cuts to the very core of our freedoms, one of which is to grow, sell and eat the nutrient dense foods of our choice. (And don’t even get me started on the forced fluoridation of our public drinking water.) Thanks for reading and taking a stand for food freedom. – Kaye

I’d be interested in hearing how you approach the problem of fluoridated tap water. Have you found a filtering system you would recommend? [BTW, your video editor, Megan Oldfield is my daughter. :)]
I am not, and have not figured out, and only recently realized how toxic it is. Looking last night online there are systems for inside the house, but, to water a vegetable garden, that would take a very expensive system. The best thing is for the people to rise up and say, “No more forcing fluoride in our drinking water.” If you read online, it is suggested that it is not pure fluoride, it is industrial waste. Thanks BE…we have a private well 🙂 Are you at least filtering the water? I know it’s an added expense, but if the water is being tainted it’s really the only solution. I keep coming back to the unsettling reality that we are like hapless guinea pigs in a global science experiment with BigPharma & BiggerAg playing the role of mad scientists. blech…..
I have used shower, bath and kitchen sink filters for a dozen years, but, turns out, fluoride is not filtered out. And I’m a big proponent of not using single-use plastic bottles as much as possible, and when our bottled water company was sold three times, finally to a corporate giant, and they no longer carried 5 gallon bottles in glass, I started drinking filtered tap water. But, now, I must get a reverse osmosis filtering system, I think, to get the fluoride out. You probably have naturally occurring fluoride in your well water, but, that’s not the toxic soup industrial waste they are putting in the water supply. Hey, brilliant of the chemical scientists, don’t you think? It had to go somewhere, why not in people’s bodies, so we would all have ailments and have to go to the doctor and buy medicines, made by the same chemical giants? How can these guys sleep at night? – Kaye
Hi Kaye, Didn’t get very far before pulling off my figurative cap to slam it down on the ground and yell “Hogwash? More like bull hockey!!” Or something like that…
“Invasive Species” my Aunt Fanny! There isn’t any form of swine native to this continent. “Wild pigs” are the progeny of escaped domestic pigs/European Wild Boar and their closest North American relative is the Collared Peccary or Javelina (Pecari tajacu) in the SW United States.
Who was it that said “The only thing worse than lies are dumb lies?” or something like that? Gr,rrr!
AND on fluoridating tap water… Reverse osmosis is almost just as bad, in some ways. Our bodies need the naturally occurring minerals in tap water for proper organ function and RO removes everything, not just fluoride – better to “fight City Hall” and ban fluoridation altogether.
